June of 2006 Canadian Mountain View Paradise Guides and Outfitters Ltd., or MVP acquired a new area in northern British Columbia, This area had not been commercially hunted in the five years prior. This 2000 sq miles tenure holds the exclusive hunting rights. Located one hundred air miles northwest of Fort St. John in the Rocky Mountains near the famous Pink Mountain taking in the Sikinni and Halfway river and is home to a variety of big game species including: Stone Sheep, Canadian Moose, Elk, Interior Mountain Grizzly, Mountain Caribou, Whitetail and Mule Deer, Black bear and the largest herd of Free Ranging Plains Bison in North America. We call this our Blueberry area.

2007 Hunt Update

The 2007 season turned out to be a very successful one, with a lot of very nice animals taken and a great group of hunters all around. August started with Stone Sheep and although the weather did not co-operate we were still 100%. One of our hunts was filmed and will air early this spring on the Outdoor channel. September was filled with some monster moose taken with archery and rifle, a few of them should place high in the P&Y awards. We had some unreal elk bugling, and we also took two very nice grizzlies, one with archery that squares 8'6'' and a scull of 24 8/16. Our season of bighorn hunts went very well, on our first hunt both hunters harvested two nice rams in the first three days scoring 170 and 175. Early October was a snowy one but the moose calling was still fantastic, every hunter saw nice moose and some of the biggest ones are still out there for next year. The bison hunts went great, on the first day, hunter Ron Rockwell took the #2 all time P&Y bull scoring 119 inches B&C with a re-curve bow; all of the hunters saw many bulls with lots of opportunity. Overall we took thirteen bulls with archery and many should make the P&Y book. We had a great time with a great bunch of guys!

2008 season promises to be an exceptional one and we hope you can join us!

There's a big one out there just for you!

2006 Hunt Report

August was the start of Sheep season and with very little time to preseason scout the first hunter Cy Rossi, NY.

We started the fourteen day hunt from the base camp, a gravel airstrip located in the west end of the area. To reach this strip it’s a one and a half hour chartered flight from Fort St. John. After arriving at camp we organized our packs and did some glassing then headed out. Day three after hiking for several miles we spotted a band of sheep about five miles away, to get there we would have to drop to the valley floor about two thousand vertical feet and climb the other side about the same. Once we had made it to the ridge on the other side we then had to locate the sheep again as they had fled over the top and into a alpine basin. After locating them we determined that the lead ram was legal but we had to make a decision… either we pull a rush stock as we only had about forty five minutes of shooting light or we were to set up camp on the other side of the ridge and try to locate them in the morning, the sheep had not seen us yet so we elected to set up camp and give it a go the next day when we had the whole day to make the perfect play.

The night seemed to take forever as we were filled with anticipation for what we had hoped the next day would bring. Early day four we awoke to a crystal clear sky that promised to be a successful day. It only took about ten minutes after daylight and we were on to them, as we peaked over the ridge we just caught the tail end of the band as they rounded the mountains edge. The sheep only had one way to go and we knew where they were headed. Quickly we gained the necessary ground and set up overlooking the hillside in their chosen path. Now it was a waiting game, they had to come but when? After fifteen or twenty minutes here they came in single file with the largest ram in the back. Only five more steps and the beautiful full curl ram would be in the clear. “There’s your shot!“ Boom the 300 WSM rang through the basin and the ram was down. At only 7:01 A.M. Cy had harvested a ram and fulfilled a life long dream. Cy’s ram was very dark in color and would measure 37’’ and was 9 ½ years old.

During this same hunt hunter Herman Ledoux , NM. Was also on a fourteen day backpack hunt, he was in another location also for Stones and he was lucky enough to take a magnificent ram also. On day one he shot his ram at 200 yards out of a band of thirteen rams. His beautiful ram also measured 37’’ and would score 165 Boone and Crockett.

Second Hunt

Hunter Mike Dee, MO. Day one he harvested a giant Canadian Moose that would score just shy of 190 inches in full velvet. Mike was here on a mixed bag combo hunt for Moose, Elk, Stone Sheep and Mountain Grizzly. On day five he ended an exciting stock on a mountain Grizzly by harvesting a nice bear at only thirty yards. We spend the next few days glassing for sheep and then spotted a herd of Elk in the valley bottom and decided to do some bugling, right away the forest lit up with bulls from all directions. We had lots of fun calling in bull after bull but none were what Mike had wanted. We saw Sheep everywhere but did not find the one we were looking for. I guess that’s hunting! Mike went home with a beautiful Canadian Moose and Grizzly. He will be returning in 2007 again on a Stone Sheep combo. We look forward in having him again.

As the snow was now on the ground Bison season was kicking off. Hunters Rick Smith and John Schaffer of Minnesota arrived for a five day Free Ranging Plains Bison hunt. Day one was filled with excitement as both John and Rick saw over two hundred Bison many of which were large bulls. On day two Rick and Guide Shane Hoyt made a long stock on two bulls feeding through the red willows. Rick shot his bull at 35 yards with his Mathews Bow only once and the bull was down . Great Shooting Rick! On day three it was Johns turn after thirty mile covered on snowmobile we found the bull we were after, a single mature male feeding in the spaced timber. John who was also hunting with archery equipment made an excellent shot at forty yards and the bull was down. Johns bull was eight years old and will officially make the all time Pope & Young awards. An excellent ending to a awesome hunt.

2007 looks to be very promising as we have now spend some time in the field, learned many of the trails, made some new ones and built spike camps in strategic locations. Throughout 2006 we saw 45 Rams, 25 different mature bull Moose that would score in the 170’’- 190’’ range, 2 or 3 that we think will break the 195’’ Boone and Crockett marker. Lots of 6 pt bull Elk in the 280 - 300 range, 15 Grizzly bears and many Mountain caribou.

MVP would like thank our new friends Cy, Herman, Mike, Rick and John for hunting with us in 2006 and we look forward in hunting with you in the near future. Congratulations on your awesome animals!

We at MVP are very excited for the upcoming 2007 season. We hope you can join us. You will not be disappointed!
